Donations Needed

Shipe Mosaic Mural Pics-
Two images: one that shows the wall as it is today; the second is the design that mosaic artists Pascal Simon and Holli Brown are planning for that same space. As you can see, it will be fantastical, colorful, and dream-like incorporating trees, flowers, star bursts, butterflies, bees, etc. Silhouettes of people playing within this landscape will representing all of us who feel that the park has been a wonderful community gathering place and meeting place for us and our children! We are really excited about this project - I hope you will consider a donation to support it!

Shipe Park Mosaic Mural has begun!

Hi Neighbors,

The mosaic mural planned for the pump house wall of Shipe Pool is gaining momentum! Friends of Shipe Park, the group leading this project, is eager to expand its scope beyond the three foot high mural originally conceived and to create a colorful glass and tile mural that will cover the entire wall!

Our ability to complete the mural will depend on the grassroots support of neighbors who support the idea of an iconic, permanent art installation in the park. In addition to the $8,000 Austin Parks Foundation (APF) grant, we received a $10,000 pledge from a very generous individual to match new donations to complete the funding needed for this project!

Please support this effort today by making a tax-deductible contribution to the “Shipe Park” fund at the Austin Parks Foundation. To make a donation, go to www.austinparks.org/member.html, then click the link under “Gifts to Special Funds” and make sure to select “Shipe Park” on the donation form. We will also be accepting donations of flat glass and/or tile and volunteer support going forward. Please let us know if you're interested in being involved by contacting us at shipemosaic@griffinschool.org.

We're a really excited about the community-building opportunities within this process and by the chance to create something really grand and beautiful in our park! If your family has benefited as much as mine from the playground at Shipe; if you rely on the cool waters of the pool as a refuge from the heat of summer; if you enjoy the all benefits of the community asset that Shipe Park is for all of us, please help us in this effort!

Thank you for your support!
